A Kindergarten Message
The Kindergarten Curriculum is organized to facilitate thematic
instruction. The Program is primarily made up of literacy and numeracy, aesthetics
and knowledge of the world. We carefully weave the content areas into the activities
that make up themes. A Theme encompasses all aspects of the curriculum - reading,
writing, math, science, social studies, art, music, technology, dramatic play and
movement. Themes make the curriculum much less fragmented and it makes the
most of limited time periods. Themes encourage children to explore more deeply into
content, by providing sustained activities over the course of a week or two. Themes
offer one of the best organizational structures in which children of different interests,
language abilities, and background knowledge can profitably work together. It is
filled with what children know - their ideas, their creations, their plans, their
discoveries. Also by integrating the various areas into related
activities, we cover
a great deal more than we would by treating them as separate areas of study.
Kindergarten
is more than supervised play. The instruction it offers lays the
foundation for all subsequent school experience. Academically,
activities are designed to help each child achieve the vocabulary and
language abilities which are basic to reading success. Beginning
number concepts are introduced and readiness for written language is
developed. The social studies, science, and computer program
contributes to each child's knowledge and understanding of his world.
Opportunities are provided for children to gain appreciation and to learn
the satisfactions of creative expression through art, music, movement, and
dramatic play.
Socially, kindergarten serves every child
as an orientation to school living and teaches important lessons of independence,
self-control, and cooperation. It makes a basic contribution to the development of
desirable work habits and attitudes. Physical education, health, and safety are
essential aspects of the program.
The main
objective of the Kindergarten program is to accommodate individual differences and styles
for maximum development of their abilities.
