Character Matters
Mrs. Roznowski Ext. 320
Welcome Back to Character Matters! Our first activity of the year
was “Friends Across The Wall”. We appreciate all of your
help; the hands look great around the school.
The cougar steering committee has decided that we will focus on one
character trait each month. For the month of October we will be
focusing on Manners. Each day try to discuss eye
contact, saying hello, please, thank you, etc. Manners should
extend outside the confines of the classroom. Remind students
to greet other students and staff in the halls as well.
Along with practicing and discussing manners in our classroom, we
will be watching for random acts of kindness. An
Act of Random Kindness
is when we challenge ourselves to go above and beyond our normal
routine and choose actions that consider the feelings of others
before our own.
Challenge your students to complete acts of random kindness that
they will be proud of. This activity will take place for the
entire 2008-2009 school year. Please see the guidelines below.
Guidelines
Ø
Each classroom from Kindergarten to Fifth grade will receive an
envelope with strips of paper located by the light switch in
each room.
Ø
A student and/or teacher will take a strip of paper and record
the act of kindness. Acts of kindness should be recorded in the
middle of the paper because they will be formed into links.
Ø
Once each strip is completed, they can be dropped off in the box
located outside of the cafeteria (next to the lost and found
box).
Students in grades six to eight will receive Caught you Being
Good cards. Classroom teachers and special teachers will be
handing the cards out for students who display exceptional
kindness. Each card will be turned into the cafeteria and
student/students will receive an ice cream dessert. At the end
of each month, the cards will be collected and one student will
be picked out of a hat, be announced on EATV and receive a small
prize.
The caught you being good cards will begin in October and end
before winter recess.
Thank you for your help,
Lauren Roznowski
